Laem in Thai means headland. Around the coast of Koh Samui you'll find several headlands. These raised pieces of land which project out into the sea are of interest on Samui as they have largely escaped major development. From these elevated locations one can enjoy some of the most stunning views of the island and out over the Gulf of Thailand
Around Samui's headlands are wonderful sheltered bays and beaches, some great for swimming, others more suited to snorkeling or perhaps fishing. For those wishing to get away from tourist crowds and relax with only the sounds of nature to break the perfect silence, take time to visit these coastal areas. You will not be disappointed.
Laem Sor
The southern most tip of Samui and the location of the rarely visited Laem Sor Chedi. Close by is a small meditation forest and man made lagoon. The gold coloured Chedi is on the beach and is a marvelous place of silent tranquility.
Laem Yai 30 min from the airport
The position of Laem Yai ( known by locals as Kao Laem Yai ) at the far northwestern corner of Samui, makes it one of the best places on the island to go and see amazing sunsets over Koh Phaluai and Anthong National Marine Park, looking west.....
Laem Hin Khom's position at the southwest point of Koh Samui affords terrific views of Angthong National Marine Park to the west and the Katen Archipelago to the south. This headland is covered in lush greenery and has a beautiful narrow beach.....
Laem Sai
The headland of Laem Sai separates the beaches of Maenam and Bophut on the north coast of Koh Samui. Covered in tropical greenery, the views of Koh Phangan from this promontory are fantastic, especially at sunset.
The headland of Laem Chon Khram is found at the southern end of Tang Yang Beach (Lipa Noi Beach) on Samui's west coast. This is a base for The Royal Thai Navy and access is restricted. However, the sheltered bay of Tang Yang is a great place to see local fishermen head out to sea at dawn or dusk in their brightly coloured boats.
