Found off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea, Phuket is the largest of Thailand's islands. A road bridge connects it to the mainland at its most northern point. In the past, this area relied on tin mining and rubber plantations as an income source, today tourism has replaced these traditional industries.
Along with 39 smaller islands, Phuket occupies an area of approximately 570 sq.kms.
