Pink Dolphins tour
PINK DOLPHIN TOUR��(Sousa chinensis)
The pink dolphins found in the waters around Koh Samui and the nearby coast of the mainland is a subspecies of the Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin (sousa chinensis). They are robust dolphins, adults grow to a maximum of 2.8 metres and weigh up to 280 kgs. Colouration varies from brown-grey, pale grey or pink-white on their upper sides and lighter underside with grey speckles. Newborn dolphins ( about 1 meter long ) are normally grey changing to white or pink with grey spots as a juvenile (2 meters long) and white or pink as adults (2.8 meters long). Traveling in groups of 3-7 they prefer shallow coastal waters and feed on shoaling fish. They take their colour from the presence of blood vessels near the skin which are used to control their body temperature. These dolphins are endangered mainly because of water pollution and entanglement in fishing nets.
Irrawaddy Dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris)

Irrawaddy dolphins are one of the most endangered species of dolphin on the planet. They can still be found in the coastal waters of the Gulf of Thailand, as they prefer shallow waters, river estuaries and can be found far inland in rivers where they follow the "eel catfish "usually around October. Characterized by a round head, no beak, and grey to slate blue in colour with slightly lighter undersides these dolphins have a small triangular dorsal fin half way along its back.
Irrawaddy dolphins grow to a maximum length of about 2.3 meters and weigh up to 135 kgs. Females reach sexual maturity at 7-9 years and give birth to a single calf every 2-3 years.
